LAREDO, Texas—After receiving a call from a family representative of Grizelda Hernandez†, Mayor Pete Saenz is speaking out on their behalf today:
“I spoke with the family of Ms. Hernandez†, and at their request, they respectfully ask that I share this message of concern with you today. They are in a state of grief, and are asking for respect of their privacy, sensitivity, and, more than anything, space to properly grieve their loved ones,” stated Mayor Saenz.
“They have been through an immense shock and this personal tragedy weighs heavily on all of them. Although they sincerely appreciate the positive outpouring on social media postings of the public’s condolences, thoughtfulness and concerns over the family’s well-being, they also ask for the public to be mindful of their present situation and refrain from any public opinion or assumptions as to what occurred and possible outcomes. They ask that we allow the law enforcement process and our justice system to proceed accordingly, in due course.
“I offered my whole-hearted support to them and advised them that I would be issuing this statement today. I implore, you, Laredo, you are a kind and big-hearted city, full of generous souls, I ask the greater citizenry to set aside their own personal viewpoints and think as if this tragedy had suddenly befallen your own home. Let us grieve alongside them and offer our heart-felt prayers. Yet, at the same time, give these broken hearts the time, space and dignity that they have requested and need in this very difficult situation. Furthermore, the Hernandez Family is not organizing any financial funding events at this moment. I am honoring their request and offer them my deepest condolences and will remember the victims in my own daily reflections and prayers.”
