LAREDO, Texas – Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents from the Laredo South Station, along with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Laredo Police Department, apprehended 33 illegal aliens after responding to an attempted smuggling event.
The incident occurred on September 8, when HSI agents requested assistance from Laredo South Border Patrol agents in stopping a possible smuggling attempt at a business in north Laredo. When agents arrived at the location, they initially encountered 31 individuals. A further search of the immediate area resulted in an additional two subjects being taken into custody, for a total of 33. Agents conducted immigration inspections on the subjects and determined they all had entered the United States illegally.
Further interviews of the subjects determined that seven were unaccompanied children, the youngest being just 14 years old. Additionally, six of the subjects from the group of 33 were identified as being nationals of the Dominican Republic.
“Collaborative enforcement efforts such as this one have a significant impact on alien smuggling organizations’ operations,” said Jason D. Owens, Laredo Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent. “The Laredo Sector Border Patrol will continue working closely with its partners to disrupt these criminal groups’ illegal activities.”
