LAREDO, Texas – Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents arrested four subjects and seized almost a half-million dollars’ worth of marijuana in a failed smuggling attempt on Falcon Lake Wednesday night.
The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on November 28, when personnel operating the aerostat near Zapata, Texas observed two watercraft approaching the U.S. banks. Agents responded to the area once the vessels made landfall, and a search of the area led to the apprehension of two individuals who were determined to be illegal aliens.
A further search of the area led to the discovery of dozens of plastic-wrapped bundles which were later found to contain marijuana. During the search, two more individuals were encountered, and immigration inspections determined they were both illegal aliens.
A total of 53 bundles were seized in the incident, weighing 602 pounds, with an estimated value of $482,192. The four subjects and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for prosecution.
