LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Border Patrol agents manning the Interstate Highway 35 Traffic Checkpoint seized five bundles of cocaine that were being smuggled in a white Chevrolet Colorado.
The incident occurred on December 17, at about 10:00 P.M., when the vehicle approached the checkpoint’s primary lane of inspection. While at primary, a service canine alerted to the odor of concealed people and/or narcotics. The vehicle was referred to secondary inspection where a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of five bundles concealed in an aftermarket compartment. The bundles were determined to contain cocaine, weighing a total of 6.1 Kg. (13.4 Lb.) with a street value of $680,720.00 USD.
The driver, a United States citizen, was arrested and taken into the checkpoint for processing. He was subsequently turned over to special agents of Homeland Security Investigations who also took custody of the contraband. The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
