LAREDO, Texas—On October 10, Congressman Henry Cuellar will be the keynote speaker at the Grand Opening for the Laredo Area Census Office (ACO) ahead of the 2020 Census. The ACO will serve as the management center for local census takers and supervisors in the area.
The event will feature keynote speaker Congressman Cuellar, along with Mayor Pro Tempore Roberto Balli; Complete Count Committee Chairs Rosaura Tijerina and Cindy Liendo. Miguel Conchas of the Chamber of Commerce will be the emcee of the event and Bishop James Tamayo will provide the invocation. U.S. Census Bureau Assistant Regional Census Manager Jesus A. Avina, Senator Judith Zaffirini, and State Representative Tracy King will also be in attendance. The United Independent School District J.B. Alexander High School Color Guard will provide the Presentation of Colors and the Laredo Independent School District MacDonnell Elementary Choir will perform the National Anthem.
The census is the largest peacetime deployment of civil servants across the country. The census officially begins on April 1, 2020, and for the first time ever it will have an online option, which will make filling out the form easy, safe and secure for the people of Texas.
